In some cases, there may also be more than one IBQ-related data file if the image was split into multiple parts. The `.ibp` file acts as the controller, while the `.ibq` file or files hold the actual recovered image data.

Windows may not know what to do with an IBQ file when you double-click it because `.ibq` is a niche and uncommon file extension. It may ask you to choose a program, or it may incorrectly associate the file with another installed application. This does not necessarily mean the file is broken. It simply means Windows does not have the proper file association. If you see a matching `.ibp` file beside it, the safest assumption is that the IBQ file belongs to an IsoBuster managed image set.

You can think of the `.ibp` and `.ibq` files like a book and its table of contents. The `.ibq` file contains the "pages," or the recovered disc data, while the `.ibp` file contains the table of contents, recovery notes, and instructions for how the data should be read. Without the `.ibp` file, the `.ibq` may still contain data, but it may be difficult or impossible to open normally. Without the `.ibq` file, the `.ibp` file may open but will not have the actual recovered data behind it.

So, if you are trying to recover files from an IBQ file, the best approach is to install IsoBuster, keep the `.ibp` and `.ibq` files together in the same folder, and open the `.ibp` file. The actual files you are looking for, such as photos, videos, documents, or folders, may be inside the recovered disc image and can usually be extracted through IsoBuster.
